Open Knitting and Crochet Night
Join us every Thursday from 6 to 8 pm. for open knitting and crocheting. Bring along your works in progress and your finished projects to show and share.

Knitting and Crochet clinics
Tuesdays 1 to 3 pm
Fridays 1 to 3 pm

We want to make the shop available to our customers who may need extra help on a specific project, or have a question about a technique or who may need help with a project that uses yarn purchased elsewhere.  This also provides a dedicated help person who will not be interrupted by other activities at the shop.

The cost of the clinic will be $5 for each session. You can receive help with either knitting or crochet projects during these clinics. If you have a problem and do not know how much help will be needed you can ask a shop employee and they will let you know if you need to attend a clinic.

The clinics have been popular this summer but not so busy that we need to have people sign up in advance.  When everyone gets back from the beach in the fall we may need to ask you to sign up in advance.

Fee:  $5

Project of the month classes

We are starting a series of project of the month classes.  Each class will be a small project that will teach you a new skill.  We are offering a crochet project of the month and a scarf of the month class.  The crochet project of the month charge will be $5 and the scarf of the month cost will be up to the instructor since these will be more complex projects.

Crochet project of the month
Tuesday August 10, 2010
6:30 to 8:00 pm

This month’s project is an attractive facecloth.  You will learn how to work slip stitch in a pattern and for the more ambitious we will have a special edging.  The project uses 3 colors of cotton, we will have kits available soon.

Class fee: $5, materials extra
Materials: sport or worsted weight cotton in 3 colors Size I or J hook.  Note: because of the use of a slip stitch in this pattern you will need to use a hook a size  larger than the hook you would normally use for the weight of yarn you select.

Scarf of the month
Saturday August 28, 11 am to 12:30 pm

The scarf of the month will begin in August and will usually be held the fourth Saturday of the month from 11 am to 12:30 pm.    .

The first project is the backyard leaves scarf from the book Scarf Style.  In this class you will learn a very clever way to make an edge that does not roll or fold back for the scarf.  You will also learn how to read a chart and how to read a chart that uses both right side and wrong side rows.

Class fee: $15
Materials: 200 to 300 yards of Aran weight yarn. Size 8 needles. (Sample was done in Debbie Bliss Luxury Tweed, which we no longer carry.  Rowan Silky Tweed would work well in this project).

Knitting classes
We have classes to improve your skills, KALs and project classes

Improve your Skills:

Study in Steeking
30$ - up to 8 students
Saturday, August 21st from 11am - 12:30
Saturday, August 28th from 1-2:30

Are you terrified of steeks? Don't be! In this two-session class, you will learn everything you need to know about the gentle art of slicing apart your knitting. Using a small, non-threatening pattern that Mandy designed especially with the novice steeker in mind, you'll knit and then steek a pair of pulse warmers.
During the first session, we will cast on for the pulse warmers and discuss the construction and use of steeks. We will reinforce the steeks using the crochet method and cut the steeks during the second session.
Prerequisites
You should be comfortable knitting in the round on a circular needle and have a healthy sense of knitting adventure. If you don't know how to crochet, that's okay! Mandy will show you the simple crochet stitches used for steek reinforcement.

Materials
Class fee: $30.00
Two contrasting skeins of Ultra Alpaca Light
16" circular needle in size US 2 or 3
size B crochet hook
sharp scissors
darning needle
six buttons
