Knitting classes

Improve your Skills:
Beginning knitting
Saturday March 27
11 am to 12:30 pm
You are welcome to come if you've never knit a stitch--or if you've done some knitting in the past and just want to "hone your skills." However, you do need to let us know if you plan to come. We'll have 2 simple but fun projects--a garter stitch scarf in lovely Noro yarn, or a sampler scarf using 8 different stitch combinations. You can come to either class--and we will help you with whatever you want to learn. We anticipate that some students will want to do the garter stitch scarf, and some the sampler scarf. Date of second class will be scheduled at the class on the 19th.It will take 2 classes to complete your project and our classes usually last about 1 1/2 hours
Taught by Natalie.
Each class will be $15 plus materials. .

If you have a question about the socks you are working on; do you need help with the gusset or short rows or Kitchener stitch this is the class for you. If you have not knit socks before you can come to get started on a basic sock. You can also come just to have some knitting time on a sock in progress.

If you are stuck in a long-tail rut, this is the class for you! Mandy will teach a variety of casting on and binding off techniques. You will be a better, more confident knitter after this intense lesson! Some techniques covered include Old Norwegian Cast On, Figure-8 Cast On, Stretchy Russian Bind Off, and 3-Needle Bind Off. If you have a cast on or bind off in mind that you would like to learn, please contact the instructor before the class by email (mandy@myzigzagstitch.com), and she will try to include it in the lesson!

This class is a prerequisite to the knit one below reversible vest (unless you have had a class on correcting mistakes in this stitch elsewhere). We will schedule times for the Knit one below reversible vest project at the end of this class. You will make a face cloth using cotton yarn and you will practice correcting mistakes

We will have two meetings each month to go over the square, techniques and questions. We will also have a Yahoo group for those who are knitting the afghan. Stop by the shop to see the yarn for this project in Cascade 220 superwash (you can machine wash the afghan in this yarn) or in Ultra Alpaca.
$5 per session.

Great American Aran Afghan KAL (knit along)
Begins March 20
9 am to 10:30 am
The class limit is 8 but if enough people are interested we will have 2 class sessions. The class will have a Yahoo group where class notes and files will be posted and where class members can interact with each other between classes. We will start with one square each month. The instruction book includes 4 pillows and we will start on the easiest pillow. If you want to “test” the class before you commit to the afghan you can knit this pillow. You can progress at any rate you wish and you can join later in the knit along if you wish. We are taking about a year to complete each afghan. The course includes notes for each square with hints and information about the techniques used.

Olympic Reindeer hat
Saturday, March 6
1 to 2:30 pm
Note: class will be offered again on Tuesday evening March 23
Do you like the reindeer hat that our olympic team wore at the opening cermony? The Ralph Lauren hat orginially sold for $65. It is now sold out and is going for hundreds of dollars on Ebay. The solution? Knit your own. The orginal pattern can be found on ravelry but makes a very tall hat (you can see pictures on Raverly too). Judy has reworked the reindeer portion of the chart so the length of the hat is about 2 inches shorter and so the hat looks more like the orignial Ralph Lauren hat. You will learn how to create a knit in hat band and stranded color work.
Materials:
16" circular needle in size US 5 and 6
DPNs size 6 or 32-40” circular needles for magic loop
1 skein each Red, White and Blue yarn (cascade 220, cascade superwash, Berroco Ultra Alpaca
Class limited to 8 students
Taught by Judy
Cost: $20
Crab parts and Olympic Reindeer hat
Tuesday, March 23
5 pm to 8 pm
Did that get your attention? Crab parts are part of the Great American Afghan. You could knit a nifty beach pillow using this square which includes waves, sand, fish, a crab and a shell. The Reindeer hat is a repeat of the class that met on Saturday March 6 but students from the March 6 are welcome to come and get some help and knit along with the other hat knitters. See the class description on March 6 for materials and additional information.
Crab parts: free
Olympic hat $15
